Approve the Payroll Accounting Package
Map payroll balances to accounts, confirm paid amounts, and approve the accrual and payment entries together.
How-toFor Bookkeepers, Firm staff
Prepare Both Entries
- 1
Open a reviewed pay register and choose Prepare both entries.
- 2
Choose accrual and payment dates, then map each nonzero expense and liability balance to a company account.
- 3
Confirm the actual net pay, tax, deduction and benefit amounts paid on the payment date. Net pay is prefilled for review; remittances begin at zero.
- 4
Review both balanced entries and confirm their dates and payments against evidence.
- 5
Choose Create both entries for approval. The package now contains an accrual and a payment draft.
One Package Approval
The saved register displays the actual journal lines for both entries. Review the entire package, check its confirmation, and choose Approve payroll package. One action records the same reviewer's decision on both entries together. A changed or refused member leaves the package unapproved; further approvals may be required by accounting policy.
Approved entries continue through the existing posting workflow. Package approval does not itself move money or bypass posting verification.
Outstanding Payroll Liabilities
The accrual records payroll expenses and payables. The payment entry clears only the amounts confirmed as paid. Employee taxes, employer taxes, deductions and benefits remain payable for any amount that has not been remitted. Do not infer a remittance from withholding on a payroll report.
